Beauty Buzz: Beach Waves

Beach waves !!! I just love them !! It's the perfect style, put together yet undone !! If you have read some of my other post you know that I'm a hairstylist. I took a break from it while I was pregnant & I'm starting back up again this month. Hair is a passion of mine & I love trying new styles & products. In honor of me starting my career back up again I figured I would start doing a weekly/monthly "Beauty Buzz" post.. A "Beauty Buzz" post will be all about my favorite products, tutorials, hair I have done,  makeup etc. Ok sorry I jump around so much , let's go back to the beach waves. I have 4 obsessions that help me achieve beach waves photographed below.

To start you need a blank canvas. I have wavy frizzy hair so I personally like to blow dry my hair the night before to save me time. Your hair also holds better if it's not fresh & clean. Also let's face it, I'm a mom, I'm lucky to take a shower. Nevermind wash, blow dry & style my hair all in the same day! I section my hair horizontally so I'm not working with to much at a time. I take about 1 - 1 1/2 inch sections & wrap my hair around the wand away from my face. I continue to take sections until my whole head has been curled. I shake it up & then straighten the last few inches of my hair! Then I spray my root area with some dry shampoo. Next I spray the texturizing mist throughout my hair, mid shaft to end while lightly scrunching. Let me tell you that mist smells glorious, its like wearing perfume. Finish with a light mist of hairspray & TADAAA beach waves! This style is perfect for me. My hair is usually a wreck by the end of the day from miss Hadley pulling at it. Oh don't forget spit up & drool, lovely. Mine as well start the day off with a messy style.

DIY Head Wraps for Mama & Baby

Ok so I am super into DIY projects.  I swear now a days you can find out how to do everything on the internet ! Pinterest is amazing, I think many of you will agree with me there. I also figure out how to do a lot on youtube. My latest DIY project has been head wraps for miss Hadley & I. They are definatly my new obsession and my go to hairstyle! I am so excited about them being such a hot trend right now! They are a perfect statement piece or just a quick fix for a bad hair day! I love wearing them with just a simple top knot! It makes me look a little more put together than I actually am while looking fashionable! The days I take more time to get ready, l love wearing them with my hair down & some beachy waves! They are surprisingly super easy!! The last few I made were even easier but my latest ones I decided to make look more professional and use a sewing machine. I have never ever used a sewing machine in my life. Well maybe a few times and that was in my 6th grade home economics class. That basically doesn't even count, I don't remember what I ate for breakfast nevermind remember how to use a sewing machine after 15 or so years! After a trip to Jo Anns fabric with my coupons in hand, I found a fabric that I loved & 50% off! Oh it was also the first time Hadley full blown cried in a store, that was rough. My mom broke out her ancient looking sewing machine & talked me through it ! Luckily I only needed to learn how to do a straight line & I cant even guarantee it came out that straight. But it is a start, right? It was really fun & I felt all domestic propped at a sewing machine. I think I found a new hobby ! Below I listed step by step how to make a head wrap along with some pictures to help explain more ! Feel free to ask any questions !

You will need:
Stretchy fabric
Scissors
Measuring tape
Sewing machine
Pen
Pins

1. Measure the circumference of your head, times it by 2 & add another 1/2 inch to and inch for sewing! You don't want the exact length or it will be to small once you sew it. ( I know this first hand because the first one I made for Hadley was too little , oops)

2. Decide what width you would like, I personally like thick head wraps but you can do as thick or thin as you would like ! I did mine 8 1/2 inches. The wrap in the picture below was Hadley's & hers is 4 1/2 inches.

3. Fold the fabric in half, inside out and measure out and mark your length and width. Cut along your measurements.

4. Now pin along the entire length where you will be sewing. Once all your pins are in place bring it over to the sewing machine and sew a straight line all the way down to the bottom! Now your left with a long tube of fabric , flip right side out!

5. Fold the the fabric in half with the seam on the outside in the middle, line up your open ends and pin in place. Now sew a line straight down. What your left with is a big circle.

6. Flip the circle so all the seams are on the inside. Twist the middle of the circle once.

7. Twist one more time

8. Tuck the back pieces inside eachother & tada ready to wear !

This was another style I made for little miss Hadley.
It started off as a mistake, and turned out to be adorable :)
Nothing like a little improvising!

The perfect accessory for a casual bad hair day, Oh & I am obsessed with these new shorts from forever 21 ! The ones I ordered at 3am one night when I was feeding Hadley ! I am going to do a post of some of my favorite trends for me & new purchases soon!

Pregnancy, A beautiful yet not so beautiful thing..

Pregnancy, a beautiful yet not so beautiful thing. I always had in my head that I would have this super glamorous pregnancy. Dressed to the nines everyday with the perfect baby bump. Well luckily I had a nice bump but I was far from dressed to the nines. I was not that pregnant lady you would be pinning on your "pregnancy fashion" pinterest board. Oh well. There were a few times I made it seem like I was that girl. Snapping pictures of my "outfit of the day" but those outfit pictures were pretty much the only times I looked liked that. Fashion was not my strong point during my pregnancy, actually I am not sure what was. I started out feeling blah & then I got hit with the dreaded morning sickness which was actually all day sickness from 11-16weeks! Whoever came up with the term "morning sickness" and made woman think they would only be sick at the beginning of the day & then prance around like a sparkling unicorn the rest of the day SUCKS. At this point in my pregnancy I made the hard decision to give up my career as a hairstylist. It was my dream, I had a big clientele, was this the right choice? This question drove me nuts, people thought I was nuts for leaving my success behind. I had some clients completely support me while other clients did the opposite. Some were quit rude, you would think I asked them to give me their first born child and all their other valuable possessions. As my pregnancy continued I turned into that crazy pregnant lady, I literally would scan google and think I had every horrific thing that could happen during pregnancy! At this point I could probably be an OBGYN with all the stuff I know. I need both of my hands to count how many ER trips I took, a couple nurses even recognized me, how embarrassing! I am lucky to have an amazing husband & mother who put up with me. One afternoon I was having my daily meeting with the porcelain throne getting sick and having the worst nose bleed of my life. Actually my first nose bleed ever! As I yelled for my husband my inner hypochondriac told me I was going to bleed out and die on my bathroom floor. Picture that scene, nothing but a hot mess, I told you I was far from a glamorous pregnant woman.  But my entire pregnancy was not full of barf & anxiety. There were many beautiful moments. The first time I felt her move, the first time my hubby and I felt her kick, the first time we heard her heartbeat, finding out we were having a girl, seeing her at the ultrasounds. It was all surreal, as blah as I felt it was all still perfect. She was always very active, I would sit for hours and watch her wiggle beneath my skin. I looked forward to taking my weekly bump picture & sending it to my husband while he was at work, super sexy huh. I would do it all again in a heart beat, ok not a heart beat but I will do it again ! Did I make the right decision leaving my dream job, absolutely. Being a hairstylist is my second dream job now & sooner or later I will make my comeback. Right now I am doing my dream job, staying home & being the best mommy I can be to Hadley.

This was one of those times I looked like a put together pregnant woman. Our maternity shoot with our photographer Tara Renaud Photography. She has captured all of our amazing moments, engagement shoot, wedding, maternity & Hadleys newborn session. Enjoy!

Happy Sunday,
Xo

I loved what she did with this, top was our engagement session 2 years ago.
Such a beautiful idea. I shed some tears when I saw this one.

True life: I am addicted to shopping

Shopping has always giving me a thrill ! How exciting huh? Guess it doesn't take much to please me! There's just something about a brand new outfit ! I have always loved fashion and shopping, atleast as long as I can remember ! I picked that trait up from my mama & we do it very well. She's way better though, a smart shopper. I am the impulse, oh my goodness I need this or I'll just die shopper! The one that passes up on buying something and goes home and dreams about it until I OF COURSE go back and buy it the next day! Oops, my poor hubby! If only shopping could be my job. Now my closet has taken a back seat. Well ok not really, I'm patiently awaiting my Forever 21 package that I ordered at 3am while feeding my munchkin last week (another oops). Hey what can I say it feels good to put together some stylish outfits after being in yoga pants and maternity clothes for 9months! My newest addiction though is shopping for miss Hadley! Oh man these baby clothes just get cuter & cuter. The trends they have for these kiddies are amazing & I just want to have it all. The one thing and only thing about her growing quick is having to buy her new clothes. Hopefully she likes to shop as much as I do! I mean she did have her first trip to the mall at 3 weeks dressed in a fabulous tutu dress of course. She slept the whole time but still managed to score some super fabulous outfits. I wish I could sleep all day and wake up to great clothes. I posted some of the baby girl trends I have been obsessing over lately, they are way to cute not to share. The black, white & golds are killing me right now. Of course when I break down and purchase some of them you will see pictures of Hadley rocking them ! Until then she will rock all the other adorable outfits she has! How sick is it I sometimes plan her outfits out the night before! Yikes get a life Torie. Well enjoy these super cute little pieces! I'll post the links as well so you can indulge for your little ones or just window shop like I did! Besides the perfect gold bow, that one I purchased and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival (oops) & yes I already have outfits planned for it ! Is that bad?

Have a great week Y'all XO
